Resilience Coaching

for law enforcement professionals

I’m Cristy, and I help law enforcement professionals overcome mid-career burnout and regain the passion and enthusiasm they once had for their job.

The path to overcoming burnout is not walked alone; it’s okay to ask for directions.

Cumulative Stress

As law enforcement professionals, we are exposed to unique and extreme work and personal stressors that accumulate over time, such as…

Conflicts with Supervisors and Coworkers

Excessive Overtime

Rotating Shifts

Community Pressures

Defunding Movements

Divisive Political Climates

Media Scrutiny

Anti-Police Sentiment

Responding to Emotionally Demanding Situations

Lack of Recognition and Appreciation

Dealing with Death and Violence

Ineffective Judicial Consequences

Relationship Problems

Challenges Raising Children

Caring for Aging Parents

Financial Difficulties

Additionally, as we progress in our careers, the excitement and adrenaline rush we initially felt when we left the academy turns into indifference and the belief that we’ve seen it all.

The sense of camaraderie we once had with our colleagues has given way to distrust of new members to the department who are from different age generations and have little experience or cultural likeness to our values and ways of doing things.

And the enthusiasm we once felt for the unique opportunities to see and do things most people have no idea even exist has now become a burden that separates us - those who know the truth - from them - those who have no clue what’s really going on.

Burnout occurs when demands outweigh our physical, mental, and emotional resources for too long

Exhaustion

The persistent depletion of physical, mental, and emotional resources. You’re thinking, “I don’t want to do this” or “I don’t know how much longer I can keep going like this”

Cynicism

It is recognizing that you are mad at the source of your exhaustion and want to disengage from duties and colleagues. You’re thinking, “I don’t care about this anymore” or “It’s pointless to try to make things better - things never change"

Inefficacy

A pervasive feeling of ineffectiveness coupled with a sense that no matter what you do, it doesn’t matter. You’re thinking, “I’m constantly working, but I’m not making any difference” or “I must not be cut out for this line of work”

Years of accumulated work and personal stress can oftentimes result in…

  • Physical health issues like hypertension, thyroid issues, overweight or obesity, heart disease, headaches/migraines, muscle tension/pain, digestive problems, bad breath, constipation, frequent illnesses, inflammation, cancer, and memory issues

  • Mental health issues like anxiety, panic attacks, restlessness, depression, PTSD, and thoughts of suicide

  • Excessive drinking or substance abuse

  • Sleep problems, jaw clenching, teeth grinding

  • Unhealthy eating habits

  • Social withdrawal

Over 90% of illnesses today are due to stress and lifestyle, not genetics. Managing stress and lifestyle are within our control. People grow one of two ways - through pain and suffering or through insight.

Overcoming mid-career burnout requires internal transformation rather than solely depending on external changes like quitting your job or moving to a different agency. By shifting your mindset, building resilience, and prioritizing your health and wellbeing, you can overcome burnout and regain the energy and purpose needed to achieve a more fulfilling and sustainable path to retirement.

I can help you gain the insight to make that happen!

Who I am and what I do:

I’m Cristy, an FBI Special Agent turned resilience coach. I help law enforcement professionals overcome mid-career burnout and regain the passion and enthusiasm they once had for their job so they can remain employed to retirement.

Who I work with:

Male and female law enforcement professionals who are experiencing the effects of cumulative stress and mid-career burnout. These individuals often deal with the intense pressure of making high-stakes decisions, exposure to traumatic situations, long hours, and the emotional toll of their work. As this chronic stress builds up over time, it often results in exhaustion, cynicism, and feelings of ineffectiveness in their work and personal lives.

How coaching works:

Coaching is not therapy!

Therapy focuses on deep and unresolved past issues and involves healthcare providers that diagnose and treat disorders.

Coaches focus on where you are today and where you want to be in the future surrounding mind, body, health, fitness, career, relationships, finances, spirituality, etc. Coaching is an effective way for law enforcement professionals like yourself to manage stress and navigate through challenging times of burnout.

I have a background in law enforcement and understand where you’re coming from. I’m a trained coach dedicated to guiding you towards increased commitment and confidence in your job.

Seeking guidance from those who’ve been where you are can turn your struggles into stepping stones

My Story:

I’m a former FBI Special Agent turned resilience coach. I spent over 10 years investigating all types of criminal violations from drugs, fraud, money laundering, bribery, murder, rape, crimes against children, among others. I absolutely loved working cases, but hated dealing with supervisors who were promoted based on tenure rather than competence, prosecutors who cared more about their political aspirations than doing their job, and all the internal agency red-tape that comes with working for the federal government. In an effort to escape these daily workplace challenges, I moved to different squads, different offices, and different states, but realized with every move that the grass wasn’t greener. No matter where I moved, I faced the same work stressors. After dealing with this cumulative work stress for 10 years, I developed a whole host of unhealthy habits, and a fair number of medical and mental health conditions, all of which went unaddressed so as not to compromise my security clearance or fit for duty status.

I came to realize that the only way to survive was to quit. I didn’t have a mentor or coach to help me navigate these challenges in healthy ways; to help me understand that the change that was needed was internal by means of a mindset shift, rather than external by quitting my job. So, I quit.

I can’t help but think what my life would be like if I hadn’t quit the FBI after just 10 years in; if I had instead sought out a coach to teach me how to make the internal changes needed to navigate these challenges and build lasting resilience to improve my physical, mental, and emotional health so I could stay employed at the FBI to retirement.

After quitting the FBI, I completed a Doctor of Psychology degree specializing in Criminology and Justice, and began teaching university students who were pursuing careers in criminal justice, law, mental health, and healthcare how to use psychology to improve their physical, mental, and emotional health. Additionally, I completed an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach Certificate from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and worked with a health coach to help me address the bad habits and health issues I accrued during my decade in law enforcement (better late than never!). Through this coaching relationship, I was supported, held accountable, and empowered to heal myself. Armed with this knowledge and first hand experience, I want to help fellow law enforcement professionals overcome burnout without quitting their jobs.

This is why I started a coaching business, to help law enforcement professionals suffering from mid-career burnout acquire the knowledge and cultivate the habits to keep stress manageable and persist to retirement.

No one can do this job alone. Ask for help when you need it.

My coaching program will help you:

  • Develop a personalized plan that aligns with your unique needs and goals, providing you with the tools, strategies, and support to overcome obstacles, improve your health, and achieve lasting success in your work and home life.

  • Replace feelings of exhaustion with renewed energy, enabling you to better manage the demands of work and home life, improve focus, and maintain a healthy balance, so you can perform your best in all areas.

  • Regain the passion you once had for the job and a positive outlook of your long-term future in it, by addressing burnout, restoring your sense of purpose, and equipping you with the tools to thrive at work and at home.

  • Rebuild your confidence and effectiveness, empowering you to navigate challenges with greater self-assurance and perform your best in every aspect of your work and home life.

What we’ll focus on:

  • Identifying primary stressors - Together we’ll identify the specific factors contributing to your burnout whether they stem from work demands, personal challenges, or internal pressures. By taking a comprehensive look at the sources of your stress, we can uncover patterns or triggers that may be perpetuating the cycle of exhaustion and overwhelm. This clarity will enable us to create clear, actionable goals and develop personalized strategies that address your unique situation.

  • Analyzing your mindset - Together we’ll analyze how your thoughts, feelings, actions, and results are tied together. Understanding this technique will enable you to shift your perspective about stressors in your life and lead to greater resilience and wellbeing. This shift will not only help you manage stress more effectively, but also foster a deeper sense of control, purpose, and inner strength in both your work and personal life.

  • Develop new habits - Together we’ll develop a personalized strategy to help you build healthy habits that support your specific goals. By focusing on small, manageable steps that you can integrate into your daily routine, you’ll steadily strengthen your new habits until they become automatic, creating lasting positive shifts in your life. This approach will not only help you achieve your immediate goals, but will also empower you to maintain a healthy lifestyle into retirement.

The key to lasting change:

To create lasting change, you need both support and accountability. Simply knowing how to set goals, shift your mindset, and build healthy habits isn’t enough on its own. Having an accountability partner can make you 65% more likely to achieve your goals. Because there’s going to be those days where you don’t want to do it, you want to give up and that person is going to be there to support you and hold you accountable and help you get through that low spot. You’ll want someone to ask questions and seek guidance when you get stuck or frustrated.

That’s where a coach comes in. I’ll offer you the ongoing support and accountability that will help you overcome burnout and thrive in your law enforcement career all the way to retirement.
